One Passage at a Time
The D.I.G.G.E.R. Field Journal is designed to guide you through one complete study at a time. Each study begins with prayer and moves deliberately through a repeatable process of observation, interpretation, theological reflection, and response.
Although the journal provides structure, it should never replace thoughtful engagement with the biblical text. Read the passage several times before writing anything. Resist the temptation to rush toward conclusions. The most fruitful studies are often the slowest ones.
Each study may be completed over several sittings rather than in a single session. Some passages require only a few hours of careful work, while others may reward days of meditation and reflection. Allow the text—not your schedule—to determine the pace.
A Simple Study Rhythm
- Read the passage repeatedly in a reliable Bible translation.
- Pray before you begin and throughout the study.
- Work through the journal in order without skipping observation.
- Use reference tools only after wrestling with the passage yourself.
- Conclude with a concrete response of faith, worship, obedience, and proclamation.
Observation Comes First
You will notice that the largest amount of writing space is reserved for observations. This is intentional. Strong interpretation grows from careful observation. The better you see what the text actually says, the better prepared you will be to understand what it means.
Do not use the journal merely to fill pages. Use it to cultivate habits of attention, humility, and obedience before the Word of God.
